New Facebook Phone Available for Pre-Order Today

The HTC Status – “The Facebook Phone” is available for pre-order today on AT&T’s website.  Is this the phone for you?  Probably not.  The phone is really a low to mid spec’d Android phone running a version of HTC Sense UI.  It’s specifically marketed at young people (read:  teens and tweens) who are constantly on Facebook.  What some may find appealing is that is does offer a full “Blackberry” style qwerty keyboard, Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, VGA front facing camera, and the price point is just right at $49.99 with a two year contract.  The phone will be available in stores on Sunday, July 17th.

  1. It is known that Skype does officially support video on a few Android phones, though with a hacked version more phones can actually run Skype with video than are on the official list. So all that is needed is for the Facebook app to make use of the updated Skype app.

Side topic: I hope that Google adds Hangout video support to the Android Google+ app.
